Salmonid Life Cycle and Limiting Factors Tutorial

The following is an interactive, multimedia, educational tutorial about the life cycle of salmonids in a northern California watershed. It was developed in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Coastal Services Center and Community-based Restoration Program.

Salmonids begin their life in freshwater, migrate to sea to live out their adult life before finally returning to freshwater to reproduce and begin the next generation. The survival of salmonids at each life stage is influenced by various landscape and environmental conditions. These environmental conditions are known as limiting factors.

This tutorial allows you to explore the different stages in the salmonid life cycle, where they might occur in a typical northern California watershed, and the types of limiting factors that can impact these stages.
