CALIFORNIA NATIVE PLANT NURSERY

Created in 1978, the Center's California Native Plant Nursery was one of the first nurseries in the country dedicated exclusively to site-specific, genetically appropriate native plants for ecological restoration.

The nursery specializes in producing locally adapted container stock for revegetation projects.  Our staff has extensive experience with collecting propagules and growing plants from all major California plant communities.  Propagules are collected from within the watershed, as close as possible to the revegetation site, using strategies that maximize the genetic diversity and the post-planting survival of the plants produced.  We use specialized containers that are designed to produce a long, straight root system and a balanced "root to shoot" ratio. We grow only small stock, in liner, deepot, and treepot sizes.

The nursery is open by appointment only, Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.   Click here for a current plant availability list.
